Setting up the Now Playing overlay:

The Now Playing overlay can be set up in 2 ways. For free Pixel Chat accounts you can set it up using Last.FM, However Pixel Pro accounts can link spotify directly to Pixel Chat, and get a couple extra features like the ability to show the track play head.

The very first step to setting up the Now Playing overlay is to create a Last.FM account. Last.FM is a site that is designed to track the music that you play, from pretty much any music streaming service. We use this data from Last.FM to display your current song on stream.

Setting up Spotify With Last.FM

To get started, simply click here and sign in / make an account.

Once you have made an account you will be brought to a page that looks like this:

Click the big red "Connect" button next to the "Spotify Scrobbling" label.

Once you have linked Spotify you're good to go! Head back to the Now Playing overlay's edit page, and type in your Last/FM username in the corresponding setting

(Note: When you first link Spotify to Last.FM it may take 1 full song play through before Last.FM will start picking up on new tracks)

How to add an overlay to your stream

Adding an overlay to your stream is very easy! Let's go over how to do it.

To start you'll want to make sure you have created at least one overlay.

Once you have created an overlay you will see some buttons on it like so:

Chat Overlay

The button you're looking for is the Copy Link button. Once you click this is will copy the overlays link to your clipboard.

The way you add it to your stream depends on the software you are using to stream, we're going to go over all the major ones so find the one that you are using.

Adding the overlay to OBS

To get started we need to add a new browser source. To do this click the plus button in the sources tab of OBS, and click Browser

Once you do this, you can go ahead and name the source whatever you'd like. You will then be brought to a screen that looks like this:

The main thing to focus on here is the URL parameter.

Click into the URL parameter, delete what is there, then paste in the link that was copied from Pixel Chat earlier.

To get started, you want to visit your Overlays tab, click the Create New Overlay button and select the Captions overlay from the list.

Once you have created that it's time to add it as an overlay to your stream. If you need help with this you can read that help article here.

After you have added the overlay to your streaming software, open the Dashboard and click the Start Button. NOTE: This page MUST be opened with Google Chrome due to technical limits.

This page will request access to your microphone, in order for the closed captions to work the website must be allowed to use your microphone.

If the closed captions are still not showing, try opening chrome://settings/content/microphone in Google Chrome and make sure that it has the correct microphone being used.

The file uploads system

On Pixel Chat there are various situations where you would want to upload your own files to use within certain overlays. For example, you may want to use custom sounds, images, or fonts in your alerts.

The uploads system we have makes this very easy!

If you would like to upload a file, start by heading to the Uploads tab on the navigation bar.

Uploading a file here is very easy, you can either click the Upload File button, then select the file you want to upload. Or you can simply drag the file you'd like to upload and drop it within the page!

File types and limits

Pixel Chat does however only allow certain file types, and there are limits on the sizes of files. Let's go over those!

File types

The file types fall within 3 categories, Audio, Images, and Fonts.

Audio and Images are totally free to upload, however to upload and use custom fonts with your overlays, you must be a Pixel-Pro subscriber.

For Audio uploads we support:

.mp3
.wav

For Image uploads we support:

.png
.gif
.jpg

And lastly for Font uploads we support:

.ttf
.otf

File size limits

For free Pixel Chat accounts, each file has a limit of 2 MB

For Pixel-Pro accounts, each file has a limit of 20 MB

Once you have an asset uploaded, next time you open the selector for that type of file from within an overlays settings, your uploaded assets will show in the list!

Why does the Credits Overlay only have me on it?

The credits overlay is designed to be ran at the end of your stream, and will show everything that happened during the stream!

This means that if you add it, then just run the roll credits command, there won't really be anything on it since you haven't streamed while the overlay was active.

In order to make the overlay show everything that happened, you have to be sure to add the overlay to your streaming software, and keep it loaded the entire stream.

By doing this, the overlay is able to collect everything that goes on during the stream, so when it's time to wrap up it can show all of the info!

I did all that, but at the end of my stream there was still almost nothing on the credits.

If this is the case it likely means the overlay is either getting unloaded during the stream, or was never loaded to begin with.

In OBS and SLOBS this is usually an easy fix. First, once you have your overlay added to your ending scene, go to your main gameplay scene and click Add Source, select Browser, then click the Add Existing box. From there, find your credits source and add it to your main gameplay scene.

This will make sure that the overlay is always loaded during your stream.

The second thing to double check is that the overlay is staying load
